MHLIC launched its first interactive online module, “Centering Equity in Maternal Health Innovation through Policy and Engagement” in January 2023. Starting with an overview of current maternal health data in the US and some common definitions of equity, the module then outlines ways to center equity in maternal health through probing questions and areas for consideration. Numerous resources, including videos, links to external websites and documents, and interactive “quizzes” are woven throughout to make the content accessible and relevant.
Timing: The module is self-paced and can take anywhere from 20 minutes (skimming) to several hours (if you click on and explore every resource). The great news is that you can come back to the resources at any point (or open them in other windows to explore later). This module is intended to provide food for thought and guidance – at whatever speed you determine fits your needs.
Objectives: After completing the module, users will be able to:
- Describe the current state of maternal health in the United States
- List questions to consider related to promoting equity in maternal health
- Describe types of policy that influence maternal health
- Explain how engagement can impact maternal health in a community, clinical, and research setting.
