MHI ONLY: 2-Part Data Dashboard Workshop

This is a 2-part workshop being held Aug. 21 & Aug. 28.
To attend Part 2, you must attend Part 1.
Registering for Part 1 automatically registers you for Part 2.

We are excited to offer a data dashboard workshop with Shelly Engelman (Custom EduEval LLC), August 21 & 28, 1:00pm-4:00pm EST, each day, with 15 minutes breaks in between. 

Only one person per MHI may participate, but you can register to be on the waiting list. 

In this 2-part workshop, you’ll learn how to design interactive dashboards using Excel.

Pre-Workshop Requirements:  

  • Participants are responsible for ensuring that they have the necessary software (Excel) and equipment to access the materials and participate in the workshop. 
  • Participants are expected to possess basic Excel proficiency, such as the ability to open and save files, input data, and use basic formulas (e.g., =average), prior to attending the workshop.

Part 1 (August 21) will demonstrate how to use Pivot Tables, PivotCharts, and Slicers to create well-designed dashboards. Participants will be provided with clear and actionable steps that they can immediately use to create interactive dashboards in Excel. Specifically, this session will cover the following topics: 

  • How to design interactive dashboards using the P.A.R.C.S Method © 
  • Quick visualization tips and tricks to customize dashboards for stakeholders 
  • How to secure dashboards using built-in protection features 
  • Different chart types to display data meaningfully

By the end of Part 1, participants will have gained a solid understanding of how to use Excel to create visually compelling and interactive dashboards.  

Part 2 (August 28, 2023) will focus on demonstrating best practices in dashboard design to make them visually appealing and impactful. Participants will learn advanced features in Excel, as well as effective layout design techniques. Specifically, the session will cover the following topics, prioritized based on the preferences and needs of the participants: 

  • Best practices in designing dashboards to maximize impact 
  • Effective dashboard layout techniques 
  • Advanced features in Excel to customize dashboards for various stakeholders 
  • How to integrate inferential statistics (e.g., t-tests) to highlight key insights 
  • Techniques for showcasing qualitative data using interactive dashboards

By the end of this session, participants will have gained a deeper understanding of advanced Excel features and dashboard design techniques to create visually compelling and impactful dashboards that effectively communicate data insights to stakeholders. 

As part of the workshop, participants will receive 10 sample interactive dashboards and all PowerPoint materials through the presenter’s website. These materials will be made available to participants before the start of the workshop, allowing them to review the content and familiarize themselves with the concepts and techniques that will be covered in the sessions.
