Healing Centered Engagement for Intimate Partner Violence Training

Replay Now Available: Day 1, Day 2

This two-day, virtual training will be open for teams of maternal health professionals.

The curriculum presents an evidence-based intervention, CUES, which stands for Confidentiality, Universal Education, Empowerment, and Support. The universal education approach is not disclosure-driven. This ensures that all clients receive information on healthy and unhealthy relationships and resources for addressing IPV and warm lines to help prevent child abuse regardless of whether a client discloses that they are experiencing violence. This is an important way to promote health equity—CUES also prompts providers to share their power by not requiring disclosure for the patient to receive these educational brochures that have safer planning and information on domestic hotlines and chat lines for support.

The training also covers strategies for responding to IPV disclosures, including how to seek insight into the client’s perspectives and priorities, and how to work collaboratively with the client to strengthen their safety plan.  The concepts show how to adapt familiar resources to the virtual environment—such as how to connect clients with the National Domestic Violence hotline or local domestic violence advocacy programs for ongoing systemic advocacy, and problem-solving around safety planning and opportunities for financial assistance.

As a result of the training, staff will be able to:

  • Learn how the FAN (Facilitated Attuned Interactions) can help staff better take care of themselves and guide their work around trauma and IPV for families.
  • Understand Balancing ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences with HOPE (Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences) and ways to strengthen families.
  • Learn CUES, a trauma-informed evidenced-based intervention, to address domestic violence, adapted for virtual as well as in-person home visits.
  • Learn about virtual safer planning strategies and the significance of supporting survivors lead in safer planning.
