Join MHLIC to explore innovations in maternal health. Each first and third Thursday of the month, beginning on July 1, 2021, we will host individuals/organizations who are thinking outside the box and shaking things up to improve the health of pregnant people and mothers across the nation. These Innovation Thursday events will last one hour from 1-2 pm ET and include presentations by guests followed by brief Q&A.

At the end of each webinar, viewers will be able to:

• Describe the maternal health issue addressed by the innovation
• Describe at least one feature that makes this particular approach innovative in the scope of maternal health

About the Guest Speaker, Nastassia Davis of The Perinatal Health Equity Foundation:

The Perinatal Health Equity Foundation is a grassroots community organization.  They are dedicated to actively working towards eliminating health care disparities in Black infant and maternal health through advocacy, education, community engagement, research, collaboration, and direct clinical support.

Nastassia Davis is a registered nurse, International board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC), mother of 4, and a resident of New Jersey. She has over 16 years of experience working with birthing families. Nastassia is passionate about improving access to qualified lactation professionals and improving breastfeeding rates in the Black community.  She is the owner of Latch Breastfeeding and Lactation services, a private lactation practice offering home and office visits throughout the state. Nastassia founded The Perinatal Health Equity Foundation in 2018, a non-profit advocacy and support organization dedicated to eliminating racial disparities in Black infant and maternal health.  In addition to her public health commitments, Nastassia serves as assistant professor of Nursing at Montclair State University. She received a Bachelors of science in nursing from the College of New Rochelle, a Master’s of Science in Nursing from Mercy College, and Doctorate of Nursing Practice in educational leadership from American Sentinel University. She is active in several committees and organizations including the Association of Women’s Health Obstetrics and Neonatal Nursing and the Black Mamas Matter Alliance Nastassia’s research and clinical interest include implicit bias/racism in healthcare, breastfeeding in the black community, obstetrical violence, high risk OB, and reproductive justice.
