The Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health (AIM) is a national data-driven maternal safety and quality improvement initiative based on proven implementation approaches to improving maternal safety and outcomes in the U.S. AIM works through state teams and health systems to align national, state, and hospital level quality improvement efforts to improve overall maternal health outcomes. Any U.S. hospital in a participating AIM state or hospital system can join the AIM community. AIM’s strategies include patient safety bundles and tools.

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) awarded the National Healthy Start Association (NHSA) with a cooperative agreement for a five-year project focused on improving maternal health outcomes across the United States. This program would become the Alliance for Innovation on Maternal Health Community Care Initiative (AIM CCI). AIM CCI’s goal is to reduce maternal mortality and morbidity through the development and implementation of non-hospital focused maternal safety bundles across community and outpatient settings.

Ancient Song is a vital community entity and leading voice for underserved Black women, women of color, and marginalized communities in New York City and across the country.

The Enhancing Reviews and Surveillance to Eliminate Maternal Mortality (ERASE MM) is a program of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. ERASE MM funding directly supports agencies and organizations that coordinate and manage Maternal Mortality Review Committees to identify, review, and characterize maternal deaths; and identify prevention opportunities. CDC has made 24 awards, supporting 25 states.

Many states currently have active collaboratives, and others are in development. The CDC provides support for several state-based quality collaboratives.

MomsRising has many campaigns that focus on issues related to maternal health, including the maternal justice campaign, which focuses on equity in pregnancy, childbirth and the period after childbirth. This work includes campaigns on maternal mortality/morbidity, as well as mass incarceration and police reform.

The National Healthy Start Association (NHSA) is committed to improving birth outcomes and health disparities that exist within communities of color throughout the United States. As the membership association for the federal Healthy Start programs, NHSA promotes the development of community-based maternal and child health programs, particularly those addressing the issues of maternal and infant mortality, low birth weight and racial disparities in perinatal outcomes. With over 100 Healthy Start projects situated across the United States, the Association works to expand the capacity of community-driven, based MCH programs and maternal infant mortality preventive health services, thereby ensuring that all families have access to a continuum of affordable quality health care and related services.
